Safety note: If you have fever/chills, spreading redness up the limb, severe pain, or feel very unwell, go to the emergency department or call 911.

Debridement
Gentle removal of dead or infected tissue helps the healthy tissue grow and supports better healing. This may be done during clinic visits and may be repeated over time.
Advanced Dressings & Unna Boot
Moisture‑balancing dressings protect the wound while it heals. For venous leg ulcers or swelling, an Unna boot (a specialized compression wrap with zinc oxide) can reduce fluid and support skin recovery.
Wound VAC (Vacuum‑Assisted Closure)
A small device applies controlled negative pressure over a foam dressing to remove excess fluid, reduce swelling, and support blood flow. VAC therapy is particularly helpful for larger or deeper wounds.
Topical Therapy
Antimicrobial or anti‑inflammatory ointments/gels are used when indicated to improve the wound environment.
Ultrasound Therapy (ask Wyoming Medical)
Ultrasound uses gentle sound waves to help a wound clean and repair itself. A small device sends energy into the top layers of the wound. This loosens and lifts dead tissue and breaks up the slim “shield” some bacteria make, so dressings and your body’s healing cells can do their job. It can also boost local blood flow, which brings in oxygen and nutrients the tissue needs to grow.
Skin Grafting/Substitute (when appropriate)
When a wound lacks enough healthy tissue to close, your provider may discuss skin grafting/ substitutes. Skin grafting works by covering a wound with healthy skin. In addition to traditional grafts, we also use engineered human grafts, including placenta or amniotic-based tissue grafts. These specialized grafts provide a natural barrier and help speed up recovery. It’s considered when medically necessary; we’ll review candidacy, benefits, and risks before proceeding.
After‑visit support
You’ll leave with clear, written dressing instructions and follow-up timing. If your wound is related to blood flow issues or surgery, our general and vascular surgery team can evaluate the cause and discuss treatment options.

Hands demonstrating dressing change on patient

Upon visiting, we'll review your history, check circulation when needed, clean the wound, and select the right dressing or therapy.
We'll discuss home care, supplies, warning signs, and follow‑ups. If appropriate, we’ll talk about Wound VAC or skin grafting/substitutes and coordinate next steps.
Coverage varies by plan and medical necessity. Our team will check your benefits and review expected costs before treatment. We accept all insurance, including Medicare and Medicaid among accepted plans; call us to confirm your coverage.
With some treatment such as skin substitutes, most patients feel little to no pain. It usually stays in place for a week, so there are no daily dressing changes. Ultrasound therapy is typically gentle. Many patients describe it as soothing. Other steps such as debridement can be uncomfortable. Our team uses gentle techniques and talks you through each step.
Every wound is different. Many improve over weeks with consistent care; some require longer. We’ll monitor progress and adjust the plan as needed.
Grafts are considered when a wound isn’t closing with standard care and the wound bed is ready. We’ll review risks, benefits, and alternatives case‑by‑case.
Call us if you see worsening redness, swelling, drainage, odor, or fever. For severe symptoms (spreading redness with fever, severe pain, confusion), go to the ER or call 911.
It depends on the dressing and wound status, but often every 1-3 days. We’ll show you how to protect the area at home.
